Kenzie was hungry.
A full day without a meal would take its toll on anyone, but especially a newly-minted teenager who was still going through the growth spurts of puberty. So while her little ones were able to run off and find little snacks for them to enjoy, Kenzie had taken to find herself a full mea. Or at least, what might be considered a "meal" in Central Park. Namely, this would consist of a half-eaten hot dog, a few handfuls of stale popcorn and the last few dregs of someone's Diet Coke.
It wasn't much, Kenzie thought, but it would be enough to get her through the day. Tomorrow, the kids would go off to church and grab their biweekly meals. Breakfast at the Episcopal Church and lunch at the Catholic. For dinner, they would roll around to the nighttime service at the Methodist Church and say their parents, once again, could not make it. It was the same routine they tread every Sunday. Hell, if Wednesdays had a morning service, it would have been the same twice a week.
A pair just a few more yards ahead of Kenzie had not only a handful of hot dogs, but also a full bag of cotton candy. If she could snatch the dogs before the two noticed, then she would not only have lunch for herself, but for whatever poor urchin had not managed to grab a meal yet. And, not to be too greedy, but that cotton candy would make the perfect dessert. She could have a handful, then pass it around so everyone had some.
It took a moment of planning, but soon the little urchin knew what to do.
She wandered up to the couple, staying hidden in the bushes as she did. In her hands, she held three little stones. Though Kenzie was a good shot and rarely missed, there was always the chance she was off her game. Today seemed to be one of those days, as the first shot flew clean over the two men, though the second hit the closest man straight in the back of the head. The two panicked for half a second, as there was blood, but soon were up and skittering away, probably heading for the doctor.
It wasn't too long before she was sitting on the stone wall, swinging her legs and munching on a hot dog. One for her, two for her little ones, and a handful of cotton candy to wash it all down.

The rule of the jungle, as old as the sun in the sky: All that hunts prospers. All they hunt dies.

The pain was great, greater than usual. He stumbled forward, unsure of his own steps. His head swiveled attentively, taking in every detail of the street around him. The pain grew slightly with each step, though still he moved. He had to, for he was unsure of whether he would be able to get up again if he would rest. In a bout of disorientation, he remembered why he came to the large city in the first place. He had been ill prepared for the journey. But in ignorance only he was blind to, he had set out anyway. Grilig’s mind dwelled on the memory to distract itself from the pain that came with such a rapid metabolism. And, closing his eyes for just a moment, he allowed it to. When he had heard of vampires originally, they had startled him. Well, at least their bodies. From the descriptions he had heard, they were an extremely durable and fantastical group of beings that had organized themselves. Their behavior however, that had intrigued him. Not as much the consumption of blood, it made sense for a predator to survive off of something as nutritious. But the fact that they hunted human beings regularly, it had surprised him. Such boldness, and there were still many things he still had to find out. He had heard that a vampire would not die even if it’s head was removed, only be incapacitated. If this was true, there were still things to test. Like what would happen if he ate the flesh from the head. Would he be supplied with infinite meat? This had sounded exceptionally wonderful. No, this had sounded like the closest thing to paradise he could ever find. It was with this in mind that he set out to discover these vampires for himself. The trip had taken three weeks and had worn on him. Recovering himself, he noted that he was not in the same location as before. This was obviously not a good sign. He had just been in a street, but now it would appear he was in a forest. “No,” he thought,” the buildings can be seen on all sides, some type of yard then?” Glancing around, he had what can only be described as ten epiphanies at the same time. He saw a squirrel. Leaping with speed he hadn’t known he had, the critter stood no chance. Soon there was a nice pile of bloody calcium scattered along the ground. But the pain gnawed persistently. He knew that soon he would have to eat again. He decided to quickly lengthen that time. In his newfound clarity, he smelled nearby meat. Following the scent, he found what appeared to be a human sitting and enjoying what appeared to be sticks of meat and pink cloth he had no interest in. Making sure he was hidden, he scanned her over with his senses. She appeared to be average for an animal. With this information, he disguised himself and set out towards the small human.
