FULL NAME:: Anastacia Serena Durant
NICKNAMES:: Ana, "Mirror"
GENDER:: Female
ACTUAL AGE:: 28
APPARENT AGE:: Mid to late twenties
SPECIES/RACE:: Plus
PREFERRED PRONOUNS:: she/her/hers
SEXUAL ORIENTATION:: Demiromantic asexual
FACECLAIM:: Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey
NATIONALITY:: Spanish/French
HEIGHT:: 5' 3”
HAIR:: Dark brown
EYES:: Brown
SKIN:: Olive
DISTINGUISHING MARKS::
There's a scar that crosses from her right shoulder blade to her bicep that she just can't seem to hide—a crack in the mirror. She does her best to cover it up with long sleeves.
APPEARANCE::
When not donning the face of another in public, Ana keeps her long hair down in front of her eyes so as to remain unnoticed. She has a tendency to slouch, though her eyes dart around to keep her constantly informed on her environment. Her skin tone dances on the borderline between peach and tan, and with constant maintenance she manages to keep her complexion clear. Ana likes her nails long and painted with intricate designs achievable only with a steady hand and a dedicated box of toothpicks. They often change from day to day.
Ana works hard to keep her natural appearance the way it is, with twice-daily teeth brushing and hour-and-a-half long showers to keep her hair soft and smooth. After all, she reasons, she can't copy her own face on her best day and use it for the rest of her life. Though makeup is rare for her given her preference to stay under the radar, she's gotten very good at it and has been known to perform miracles with winged eyeliner. On good days or days she's out with friends, she'll wear an impeccable outfit and accessorize like it's going out of style. When she's having an off-day, though, it shows—her hair is in a hasty ponytail and she's constantly running her tongue over her teeth—if she's letting you see her real face at all.
PERSONALITY::
Make no mistake: Ana embraces her flaws. She can get a bit snippy, a little condescending, and she can get really anxious when she's not in control of a situation. And, okay, so sometimes she does this thing where she mimics the voice of people she doesn't like in order to make fun of them. But she's not a bad person, most of the time. She's very optimistic and usually fun to be around. Her shortcomings just tend to be the first thing that you see about her.
If you're friends with her, though, she's sweet enough to put you in a sugar coma. Ana will go out of her way for you if you give her the right amount of attention and compassion. She'll probably even die for you, if you ask her nicely enough. She's been exploited for this quite a bit in the past, though, so she tends to be cautious about getting to know anybody anymore.
Ana makes for an amazing spy and has trained herself to be very good at deception. Her Spanish accent disappears when she's speaking as another, and she pays enough attention to detail to replicate what accent they might have in addition to pitch and tone. She views each mask as a delicate craft, and treats them as such. She's particularly selfie-prone when she's in another appearance, but this is so that she can see how she looks from every angle to ensure perfection since she can't use mirrors for the same purpose.
In addition to being a neat party trick, her ability has landed her a few jobs as a freelance spy. Ana's confidence is unshakeable, but she knows what she is and isn't capable of and doesn't cross the line too often. She's had a few bad run-ins with authority figures trying to push her past her limits, and this has left her averse to working for anyone who could be called “in a position of status.”

ROLEPLAYING EXPERIENCE:: A respectable amount, something like every day for 5 years if you crammed it all together into adjacent periods. More recently, GMing for tabletops.
ANY NOTES:: My sample is from a forum tabletop experience I've been GMing recently so at the beginning it's a bit weird but otherwise it should be fine?
ROLEPLAY SAMPLE::
Following the rustling from the bushes, there is a vast silence. A tall, rotund green-skinned man runs a hand through his hair and adjusts his crown of assorted flowers as he smiles. Having noticed the unique appearance of the latecomer, he steps forward to greet the new changeling in their midst. "Oho!" he booms, his beady black eyes focusing on the kneeling figure with curiosity. "What a time to make an appearance! You look like you've been through an ordeal. We've got some healers on hand if you need one, and food if you're hungry. I know I am." He casually swipes a piece of fruit off the table to his right and holds it in front of him as he takes another step forward and kneels as well. "But I'd rather serve our guests before taking anything for myself. I can prove it's not poisoned, if you're worried about that." His stubby dark horns poke through the daylilies and daisies forming a ring around his salt-and-pepper hair.
His voice is lower when he continues. "Really, though. I know it might be tough to swallow right now, but we're not like them. Each and every one of us is just like you, came running out of the Hedge just like you did, and we'd be honored if you'd join us for the remainder of this party. Take what you like. Eat. Drink. Be merry. You've earned it, with all you've endured as of late. If you need anything more, just pull me aside. I'm not difficult to find." He laughs, his razor teeth showing through his drawn lips. "And if I am for whatever reason, I'm Tatarind Lalonde, King of Spring. We can arrange to get you a place to stay, and we can help with... well, everything about coming back into the world. It'll get better, I promise." He hands the Fairest a mint-green business card, stating his name with the peculiar prefix of “Hungry.” The card features the Spring Court's brand in the corner as well as a phone number and an address. With that, he takes a step back and snatches an apple from the table for himself as he turns.
When he faces the other changelings, he swallows it whole.

{ BACKGROUND } |
HOMETOWN:: Barcelona, Spain
PROFESSION:: Freelance spy for hire
PARENTS:: Esperanza and Mercer Durant
SIBLINGS:: None
EXTENDED FAMILY:: None that she knows.
MARITAL STATUS:: Single
HISTORY::
Mercer left his family to be with Esperanza in Spain after an under-the-table relationship spanning several years in their youth. Having been estranged from her parents for years, Esperanza met with him in Barcelona where they did all the things a new couple is socially expected to do--got a house, got jobs, settled down, and had a baby. This baby was Anastacia, and she was a handful. No matter how well they hid it away, Ana would try over and over again to get into anything that sparkled in the light. Coins, jewelry, glitter glue and the like all had to be locked away in child-proof cabinets.
As she grew in age, Ana's affinity persisted and grew to an acute appreciation of anything made with a delicate hand and a precise movement. Her father took note of this and made it a point to teach her a few coin tricks, some sleight of hand, anything that she could practice to keep her mind sharp and focused. Ana read everything she could get her hands on, played instruments, and cultivated a myriad of other talents that she didn't practice after high school. She learned a few magic tricks that she's since forgotten, and when she was fifteen, she learned that she could do a little bit more than sleight of hand.
Her father was strictly anti-Plus, so it didn't take him very long to skip town. Ana dealt with it fairly well, if only because she reasoned it wasn't her fault she suddenly had strange abilities. She grew up, saved some money, perfected her English, and at age twenty-one she set out for somewhere new. She stayed in England for a bit before the war broke out, and she stayed there undercover until it settled, taking jobs under the table whenever she could in order to try to undermine both sides and stop the conflict.
Ana stressed out about her work a lot. There were a respectable amount of people that needed someone who was good at sneaking around and making things disappear, but one human in particular had no respect for anyone lower than himself. He tried to push Ana to her limits, forcing her to take more and more with every job she had until her concentration broke from the duress. She was found out, she was attacked, and she barely escaped with her life. She wears the scar from the altercation to this day, and she's since avoided politicians and CEOs and had a chip on her shoulder about humans and their respect for life other than their own.
After things calmed down, Ana got herself a smartphone and a suitcase and crossed the Atlantic. One car rental later, she was on her way across the United States. She stuck herself down in San Francisco and she's been there ever since. Ana prefers to side against humanity because she believes them to be bigoted and change-fearing, though she hopes that someday they may be a bit more open-minded. Whether or not she eventually wishes for their total destruction remains to be seen.
Having been raised in Spain, Ana is bilingual in English and Spanish. She used to know a little French, but she's since forgotten it and is passively trying to re-learn.
