FULL NAME:: Rurik (pronounced ryu-REEK) Yakovitch Rudakov
NICKNAMES:: Ryu, Ryur, The Fox, Fox, Foxy, lisa (it's fox in Russian)
GENDER:: Male
ACTUAL AGE:: 28
APPARENT AGE:: Mid to late twenties
SPECIES/RACE:: Werefox (Born)
PREFERRED PRONOUNS:: He/him/his
SEXUAL ORIENTATION:: Bisexual (heavily closeted)
FACECLAIM:: Dominic Monaghan
NATIONALITY:: Ethnically and Nationally Russian
HEIGHT:: 5'8"
HAIR:: Sandy blonde
EYES::Fanfic Deep green
SKIN:: Pale and DOES NOT tan well
DISTINGUISHING MARKS:: Nose like baby potato, a fox kit tattooed on each hand, a blue rose on his left shoulder, a stark black "tribal" tattoo on his right shoulder of a dragon curled around a pawprint. Covered in scars. Multiple piercings.
APPEARANCE:: Rurik has a mop of blonde hair that he only cuts when he absolutely has to, which leaves it messy and scruffy the vast majority of the time. His face is round -- to the point where even his nose is round. His ears stick out just a bit, and he can wiggle them. He has kind-looking, deep green eyes, and freckles spattered across the bridge of his nose. Rurik's skin is very pale, and it does not tan well; more often than not, it just burns, which is why he hates doing jobs in parts of the world close to the equator. Sometimes, he has scruff on his face, sometimes he trims his facial hair into a goatee, and sometimes he just shaves it all off entirely -- it depends on his mood.
Rurik is heavily tattooed: one fox kit on each of his hands, their tails curling into the fleshy parts between his thumbs and his forefingers, for both of his children; a blue, watercolor rose on his left shoulder, for the wife he lost; and a stark black tattoo of a dragon curled around a fox's paw on his right shoulder, for his family. He has several gunshot wounds on his left shoulder leading down the left side of his chest, a small slash scar on his lower abdomen, another small slash scar on the right side of his neck, and pit-marks on his left forearm, where he used to dig his claws into it. He likes to wear "punk rock"-type clothing -- baggy shirts and dark jeans, spikes on his arms and wrists, fingernails painted and eyeliner on his eyes. He has a single arrow-shaped gauge worn in his upper right ear and two lip rings on the right side of his lower lip.
PERSONALITY:: Rurik is, to most people, a generally goofy character and a fun person to be around. He's charming, and sweet, always ready to make a joke and almost always smiling. He's very easy to get along with, as awkward as he can be with his tempestuous grip on the English language. He just looks like a lazy, silly, laid-back guy, still stuck as a teenager and not having a care in the world.
The reality is a bit deeper than that.
Rurik has a temper. He hates it, but it's there, and it's red and it's ugly. He's an overemotional drama queen, but a dangerous one -- he knows how to work a gun and he has the raw power to rip someone to shreds, if he chooses. He's cunning, and clever, just like the animal he can shift into. But if his anger or emotions get the better of him, all that intelligence gets thrown out the window, and he can make some pretty stupid decisions. When he's "The Fox" he's very cold, and quiet. He puts himself in a state where he has almost no emotion so that he can do his job right without any distractions.
Rurik suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, undiagnosed but real all the same. His disorder is characterized by frequent and disturbing nightmares, infrequent flashbacks to both his father and his wife's death, hyperarousal (constantly being alert, jumpy, and jittery, with difficulty sleeping and sometimes random outbursts of anger), and a loss of appetite whenever he's in one of his worse moods. Sometimes, but not often, things that sound like gunshots or a heart monitor flatlining can trigger a panic attack in him, and sometimes he will have a panic attack when he feels crushingly alone. It's a bit of a double-edged sword, since the disorder also makes him avoid getting close to anyone.
Since he's a born were, rather than a bitten, and has grown up with the fox side of himself nearly all his life, Rurik has developed some fox like habits. He purrs when he's happy and chirps when he's surprised or just when he feels the need to make a noise, and gekkers when he's angry or upset -- gekkering being a hissing, clicking sound coming from the bottom of his throat. He even tilts his head when he's trying to get a better read on a sound.

Rurik was born to Yakov Yakovitch Rudakov and Natalia Mikhailovna Rudakova in Moscow, Russia, on the date of December 21st, 1986, five years almost to the day before the collapse of the Soviet Union. His father had been a member of the military when Rurik was born, but after the fall of communism in Russia, he turned to other sources of income -- much more lucrative ones. He became a member of the a prominent bratva, or mob family (literally, translates to "brotherhood"), and quickly climbed the ranks to become a member of the vory v zakone, their leadership. Yakov was a hard man to begin with, but once he got the stars that marked his place tattooed over his chest and knees, he became even harder. He was a strict Eastern Orthodox Christian, and he raised every single one of his children to be the same.
Rurik had five younger siblings: Mikhail, Natasha, Liliya, Viktor, and Boris. Of all of them, he was closest to Mikhail, as they had been born so close together, and the two were best friends growing up. Yakov was a werefox, and he passed this to Rurik, Mikhail, Liliya, and Viktor, so Rurik and Mikhail would often run in the woods together, fighting and tumbling as all small children do.
Yakov and Natalia made sure Rurik, and all of the rest of their children, were well educated. Rurik was trained in the piano as well as in the violin, and taught how to play chess with the best of them. By his own request, he was taught how to play guitar, as well. Rurik learned French as a second language, and attempted to learn English, but always fell asleep during the lessons and so never picked up much.
Rurik met the two boys he would grow to call his brothers-by-choice, Anatoliy and Vladimir, in his fifth year of schooling. Anatoliy was a shifter with an affinity for falcons, Vladimir a werewolf. Vladimir was half Arabic on his mother's side, and was a handsome boy, all copper skin and chocolate eyes and dark, curly hair. At first, it seemed like Rurik and Vladimir were just very close friends, the kind that finished each others' sentences and laughed at even the stupidest jokes each other made. But as they got to be teenagers, and it became clear that Vladimir's sexual preferences weren't "traditional", Yakov forbade Rurik from seeing him. It had been bad enough for Yakov that Vladimir wasn't white. Having his son be around someone who was gay wasn't something he could stand at all.
Rurik couldn't betray his close friend like that, though, and... though he wouldn't admit it, he harbored attraction for Vladimir. He continued to hang around him, and for that, he was beaten whenever Yakov happened to see them. He assured his friends he was fine every time, that he'd just been attacked, or mugged. But it wore on him, as abuse wears on and tears apart everyone who endures it. He idolized his father, and the more it became clear his father wouldn't allow anything "queer" inside his roof, the more Rurik buried the part of himself that had grown to love Vladimir. He drowned it inside himself. He dug his claws in his arm whenever he thought he felt it. He learned to hide it, to forget about it. It made him feel dead and sick and it made him hate himself, but he did it, to please Yakov. Rurik met Evelina when he was seventeen years old, and latched onto his emotional and physical attraction to her, knowing that this would prove he wasn't broken. The two began to date. And he did love her, he really did. He loved her just as much as he loved Vladimir.
It was the summer of that year that Rurik witnessed something that would change his life.
His mother had sent him on an errand one night, to bring his father dinner. When he was almost there, he heard a commotion in an alleyway, and ducked inside to check it out. There he saw his father squaring off with Nikolai, a member of his gang, someone Rurik had known since he was little. Nikolai shot Yakov in the head, the chest, and the groin, while Rurik hid and watched in silence -- though he'd wanted to scream. His father died right in front of his eyes.
Rurik never told anyone else what he saw. Two days after the funeral, he went to the murderer's home. Nikolai offered him a drink, which turned into several drinks, not knowing that he'd been witnessed, and very subtly taunted Rurik over what had happened. In a drunken rage, Rurik tackled Nikolai to the ground, his eyes yellow-orange and his pupils slits, and bashed his head into the floor and choked him until he was dead and there was a bloody mess on the linoleum.
Rurik ran.
He collected Evelina, convincing her to run with him, and they both boarded a boat bound for America. Rurik used what little English he knew to get them a small apartment home in New York, and used what he knew about crime families to establish himself as a freelancer, doing whatever jobs they gave him so he could bring bread home to the woman who was now his wife. They lived a hard life, but it was a good one, while they had each other.
Evelina didn't take too long to get pregnant. At that point, she was eighteen, Rurik nineteen. She'd always been somewhat sickly, but the pregnancy made her even sicker and weaker, and they couldn't afford the care to keep her healthy. She went into labor a month before she was due, and due to the complications, she didn't survive. The experience, for Rurik, was as traumatic as his father's death had been; he could not understand the doctors, and had no clue what was happening until he heard his wife flatline. The nurses had to drag him from the room kicking and screaming.
After that, Rurik moved to Chicago with the twins Evelina has left him, settling himself in an apartment the size of a shoebox in a complex full of other weres in the bad side of town. He established connections with the crime families there, just as he had in New York, and he lives there to this day. The people he works for call him, simply, "The Fox".
When he was twenty-six, he finally decided to contact his family. He discovered that his mother, Natalia, was in poor health. Feeling like it was his duty to, he paid to fly her to America so he could make sure she was well cared for, and now she lives with him and his two children.
