The sun was about setting. This meant it was time for Shane to go to work. He cracked the spine of the book before placing it on the coffee table. Self-help books and him have been good acquaintances for many years now, not that they helped too much with his anger. But he can be a persistent little devil. After standing he stretched out his arms and cracked his spine. A yawn erupted as he walked out of the living room. It wasn't from being tired as much as it was pure boredom . Those books sure can make you beg for death, all over again. The apartment that he decorated so well was all white with black and red accents. It was more modern than what anyone would expect, but he tried to adapt to the contemporary times as best as he could. It had that New York chic with a touch of the 1950's modern decor style. He smiled to himself as he gracefully slid to the bathroom, singing "Come Fly With Me" one of his all time favorite songs. He pulled a slick black comb from his shirt pocket and ran it through his greasy yet stylish hair. He kept singing to himself as he was in the bathroom, swinging and sliding around getting ready for work. Frank was one way he learned to calm himself down. Although the time wasn't best for him, he tried to draw positive memories from before he turned.
His skips and jolly steps led him to the door as he grabbed his leather jacket and sauntered out to the hallway. Like black and white, Shane snapped into his somber self as he locked the door and slightly hummed the song to himself. A pack of cigarettes lined the inside of his jacket. He took it out and placed a stick behind his ear as he walked out the main door to the street. The commute to his bar/lounge was not even the length of a whole cigarette. He was offered the apartment in the same building as his establishment, but he didn't want to live and work in the same place. He had done that for so long before. The walk was calming and he always enjoyed to people watch as well as get a feel for the mood of the night through his powers. By walking around the neighborhood, Shane would be able to tell if this Saturday would be a traditional one or if there was a reason people were to go out; loss, love, celebration, anxiety, etc.
The cigarette finished just as he walked up to the location. Shortly after the last drag, he walked through the lobby and into the elevator. Floor 30. The sign read NIGHT AND DAY. His eyes looked up and he tipped his head at the tribute to his all time favorite, Frank. He unlocked the front door and walked over to behind the bar. Just one finger flicked on the lights and brought the place back to life again. Low lounge, jazzy music filled the air as he took off all the covers to the booze. Not moments later a few of his employees entered the bar. "Ready for another same old Saturday night, gang?" He said as he winked to his female bartenders. They group giggled as they finished opening the bar for him. He truly enjoyed his job, his establishment and his employees. They complemented the feel of the bar as much as he did. The environment of the bar was important to him. He wanted to make sure it was friendly for all sorts to come and enjoy. They had special cocktails for vampires and plenty of booze for all who wished to indulge.
Shane walked to the outside rooftop bar and stared into the dark sky as the moon started to rise, igniting their hottest night of the week.

Azarel was on the earth for less than a week and he found it boring, the only person he found interesting was the other demon he had met, mainly because she was a Key. During his travels, he found himself in New York, walking the busy sidewalk. It was here he heard a promoter for a bar called Night and Day. What better place to look for a good time than a bar? He took a card from the man and examined it, finding the address. "Right, now to find the place."
He asked a few people where he was, and the directions to where he needed to be. He was led to the doors of a tall building, and stepped through the doors. He pushed the call button for the elevator, and waited along with a woman and her kids. "Hello.." He smiled gently at the woman, who smiled back and said hello as well. "You're very gorgeous.. Are you single?" He asked, her ring finger sporting a wedding ring.
The woman scoffed, the friendly face left and she decided to ignore him. Once the elevator was called he would allow her to walk in first before she did, then pushed floor 30 after the woman pushed a lower button. Seconds passed by and he spoke to her again. "I only ask because you never know.. Maybe your husband died and your wearing it because you miss him. I could look past that though." He smiled as she slapped him, then hurried her kids off the elevator once their floor came up.
He leaned against the walls of the elevator as he waited for floor 30, then would stand upright as it dinged and the doors slid open. He walked through, admiring the layout. "Very spiffy." He said to himself as he made his way to the bar, sitting near the middle. He took in the drink selections as he waited to be served.

As the night progressed more people flooded the bar. His place was opened to any and every species. Shane took a seat at the end of the bar, keeping an eye on everything. There was a bouncer by the main door but Shane had enough muscle to make sure no one started anything. The crowd came and went and the revenue kept going through the roof, just as he wanted it to. There was no such thing as a slow Saturday for NIGHT AND DAY. The bar wasn't new but it wasn't too old either. It was hip enough to keep engaging younger crowds but held onto regulars through the environment and engaging staff. He shot a smile at the bartenders as the male customers drooled all over them. I sure hope they are earning enough in tips. He didn't worry too much. He had a hunch the girls took home more than plenty on weekend nights.
A drink was slid down to him from the bartenders as they winked his way. A smile sprouted as he dipped and shook his head. It was one of the vampire cocktails they were so famous for. It was his secret recipe and he would rather be killed than to tell anyone what was in it. The cool drink surged down his throat as he took a sip. "Thanks dolls." He said as he slightly shook the glass in his hand. The chair swiveled as he took a look at the rest of the crowd. Seemed like he didn't know too many faces. Shane tried to be at the bar everyday but lately he had been detained. He hoped to see some more regulars pop in later as he propped his elbows on the bar watching the group on the roof.
He swiveled the chair back around when he heard the beautiful brunette behind the bar greet their newest guest. Because she was only human she wouldn't know that her guest was everything but human. Shane sensed this guy was old but was unsure of what he was. Curiosity sparked inside him as he gestured to his newest guest glass in hand. "Welcome. First round is on the house."

As he began to speak to the brunette, he found himself interrupted by another man at the bar. "Is that so then? Can I get a whiskey neat? Jameson." He swiveled to face the man and leaned against the bar. "This your place mate?" He asked as he looked around, enjoying the environment completely. It was fast paced and loud, just the type of environments he enjoyed. "Azarel, but most call me Azazle." He leaned towards the man with his right hand out stretched in greetings.
He too could tell something was different about the man, but he couldn't quite place it, only being here for a short while. "Thanks love." He took his glass from the girl and drank from it.

Shane nodded his head at the choice of liquor and at the question if he owned the bar. He briefly looked around and admired all the patrons he assumed were having a good time. That's what he wanted people to take from this place. Good times with some good people. He was done with causing trouble, although he wasn't sure if trouble would be out of his life entirely. That's why he started the bar to begin with, to keep himself out of trouble and provide a place for those who wished to escape.
It was nights like this one that made it easier for Shane to get through the night. When emotions were high with his patrons he tended to stick mainly outside or tried to distract himself by bartending or bookkeeping. He was well aware of how to control his power by this time but if someone around him happened to be in a rage or had a fit of anger, that would tap into Shane's own short fuse problem. This was to be avoided at all costs according to him.
”Nice to meet you, Azarel. I'm Shane. I don't think I've ever seen you around here before. Are you new to the neighborhood?” He shook the man's hand. If he wasn't friendly with every patron it would be difficult to keep regulars. But this guy was different. He interested Shane. He took a sip from his drink as his eyes drifted to the group of ladies that walked out of the elevator. A smile shot across his face as he smoothly greeted them from his seat. The seat swiveled back to his new guest. "One benefit of having a place like this." His head nodded towards the ladies as he finished the glass, stood up and placed it in a sink behind the counter.

He thought about the question momentarily and nodded. "I guess you could say that.. Very new actually.." He looked towards the women, whose Shane's eyes averted to and smiled at them as well. "Yes that would seem like quite the perk.." He sipped from his glass until it was empty and asked one of the fine ladies behind the bar for another one. Does this even have any effect on me? He was determined to find out. "So, Shane, What's the strongest drink you have here?" Azarel put heavy emphasis on 'strong'.

The bar started to really pick up. Saturday night was in full swing and Shane couldn't be happier. The ladies were getting their money's worth and hoped the customers had a good time. The general feel of the night was pretty content and fun. When he sensed someone not feeling very high in spirits, Shane would make a point to introduce himself and comfort them or try to accommodate them the best he could. He drew his attention back to Azarel when he asked for something stronger. A smile broke across his face as he made his way back around the bar. "Follow me."
The night was slightly brisk with a hint of fall in the air. It was his most favorite time of the year. They two of them walked outside to the half empty rooftop bar. Because the seasons were changing, not many people started their night outside but by the end it would be quite populated. This was due to the fact that the more people drank the warmer they get and having this outside spot was perfect for such people, and the smokers. The skyline lit up most of the sitting area but lights dangled from strings above the seats, to give it more of a party feel. "Have a seat." Shane gestured to the number of empty stools around the bar.
Next he flicked a switch to light up a case which held a number of unlabeled bottles. Each bottle had a different color which represented a different type of concoction. Some of his more interesting clientele, demons, vampires, weres, etc, needed something a bit stronger in order to get that good feeling. "Now. These are all pretty strong. It all depends on what you're looking for and what you like. It varies from each person. Everyone likes to feel something different and they each have different tastes" He pushed the case open softly and looked back at Azarel. "I can make almost anything. What's your poison?"

Azarel nodded and stood up, finishing off whatever was left in his glass, then placed it down on the table. He winked at the girl, sat down a dollar bill, slapped it and it became a ten. "Boom, that's for you love." He walked at Shane's pace and took a seat as instructed, leaning into the bar top. He understood the phrase Shane spoke, but he had no clue what he wanted. "Why don't you tell me your favorite.. I guess you could say I'm new to the whole drinking scene." His fingers drummed across the bar top, he was getting restless, which was normal for him. It was hard to sit around one place for too long. He thought maybe jumping on the dance floor to make a fool of himself, though he wasn't too worried about that. One, he didn't care what people thought, and Two, there seemed to be people who looked far worse than he did. Shane Williams

Unsure of who this guy really was, or really what he was, Shane raised an eyebrow. His eyes gazed back to the bottles as he pondered which to serve to his new client. Since Azarel ordered Jameson at the bar inside, Shane thought it would be a good idea to give him a taste of their version of "Fireball". He grabbed the orange bottle and set it on the bar. "Now this is enchanted to have a bit of a kick. I noticed you like whiskey and this is our rendition of the cinnamon whiskey 'Fireball'. We call it Dragon's Breath." He warned the man as he poured two shots. He purposely didn't put the shot in front of Azarel yet. There was one last aspect to the shot. It was a little theatrical but to him that is what made it all the more special.
After he put up one finger as a warning to not take the shot yet, he returned the bottle to the glass case and turned back to the bar. Like any other alcohol these special bottles also lowered inhibitions and overtime with a certain amount of consumption would cause drunkenness. A finger slipped into his pocket to find his zippo lighter. With a small flicker, Shane lit up each shot and placed the lighter on the bar. He gave a smug look to Azarel as his hand pushed the shot forward.
It was made apparent that he had ever done a shot like this before, Shane demonstrated. After a quick cheers, he put his hand over the shot to put out the flame and slammed it back. Although the fire was gone the heat trickled all the way down until it hit his stomach. The warm feeling would surge through his body, giving him a bit more energy. "One disclaimer of this shot that I tell to most of my customers is, even though it might make you feel strong like a dragon there is no need to act like one."
These shots were relatively expensive but since he was new Shane let him have this freebee. If he liked it, then he was more than welcome to order a full drink or another shot. "Was that something you were looking for?" He asked as he started to wash his shot glass in the sink under the bar.

He watched as Shane put his hand above the shot, extinguishing the flame. Azarel gave him a smug smirk then picked up the shot. "The fire isn't a problem for me.." He gave Shane a quizzical look as he downed the dragons breath and gritted his teeth, sighing at the burn of the alcohol, then gave out a small chuckle. "That's great mate!" He knew, that Shane knew, something was off about him, and Azarel knew something was off about Shane. It was only the matter of figuring out 'what it was' that made them unique.
"What do 'you' like to drink? I'll buy you and myself a shot of that." He pulled a black gnarly burnt looking wallet from his pocket, and placed it on the table. He grabbed the zippo lighter Shane laid on the bar and began to play with it. "Interesting..." He spoke mainly to himself in mumbled breath, but he wasn't trying to hide it from Shane.

Shane watched from the corner of his eye as Azarel took the shot like a champ. He chuckled at the compliment as he put the used glasses into each sink under the bar. Soak, rinse, sanitize. After shaking all the excess water he placed it on the drying rack on the end of the tri-sink. Shane dried his hands with a dishrag and slapped it onto his shoulder. His head nodded in agreeance with the man who sat before him. It was a pretty damn good drink and Shane was lucky to stumble upon it. It's one of the more popular ones. But he wouldn't dare give it to someone who was human. It would be far too strong for them to handle.
As the ragged wallet hit the bar, Shane's eyes narrowed on it. It seemed to be singed and tattered. Maybe that's what he meant by "the fire isn't a problem". The next thing to happen, gave Shane a bit of worry. The man picked up his lighter and started to examine it. Not that it meant anything, but with a wallet that laid before him in the condition it was, he could only assume it was once near or in fact had been on fire. Keeping a close eye on any sudden movements or other behaviors, Shane looked up to Azarel's face.
"Well for me, I like to drink what's in this bottle." His body turned as he tapped glass in front of the red bottle. "It's our blood cocktail. We call it 'O Positive'." Shane wasn't hesitant to say he was a vampire but he tried to not be very blunt about it. He assumed the man before him was smart enough to assume the end of Shane's mystery. But yet that left Shane empty and still guessing about his new acquaintance. He waited for the man's reaction, only because not many people are too keen on drinking anything with blood in it unless they were a vampire. Or at least from Shane's experience.

Azazel eyed the glasses Shane sanitized and watched as the man worked. It wasn't that difficult to know how skilled someone was in their profession. The man knew his way around with dexterous feet and nimble hands. Once he saw the worry in Shane's face as Azazel his eyes flicked from the wallet to the lighter, Azazel grinned. A grin that looked as if he was up to no good. "You don't have to worry about this silly device in my hand. This is minuscule compared to me." He placed the lighter on the bar top and slid it forward towards Shane. "Ooh! I understand." He gave Shane a knowing look after he explained the bottle and its contents. "Sure, I'll humor you. Pour me a shot and you yourself.. Hell, pour yourself two, you look thirsty enough." Azazel stood from the bar and pulled out the stool. He gave himself room to fold his arms over each other and onto the bar, then leaned into it. He had never consumed blood before, but he has felt the warmth of the liquid run down his skin on more than one occasion. "Tell me, are their exotic versions of this or do you only drink..." He tried to think of a playful word to dance around the subject. "... A certain stock brand?" Azazel was smart enough to get at the hints, it didn't take a genius to catch on. Of course, most of the patrons were more than likely skeptics or dullards to the supernatural. A smile came across his lips, more to himself than Shane. He had not yet alluded as to what he was. Not that he cared whether Shane cared, but if he did, it would provide a bit of fun for the demon. Dancing around the question and dropping a variety of helpful hints to edge the handsome man closer to the mystery. Shane Williams

Shane didn't go for the lighter right away. He gave a half smile and turned towards the cabinet. His mind wandered across the words Azarel spoke about the fire power of Shane's lighter. This intrigued Shane more than scared him. He had faced several demons and other supernatural things in his day, but meeting new ones always sparked an interested within him. "Thank you for the gracious offer, my new friend. But someone has to keep track of this bar." Shane poured two shots out of the red bottle and placed it in front of each of them. The taste of this liquor would be different than the fireball. Not much of an initial kick but a lingering thickness and warmth that would feel similar to the real thing. But the after taste would provide the same intense feeling of strength as the orange bottle provided.
He lifted the glass as a cheers and downed it slowly. Letting it trickle through his mouth and down his throat with ease. "Personally I have engaged in many types but here we only have this one in stock." Shane nodded, taking away the empty glasses once again but not washing them this time. "Which do you prefer? Unless you'd like to try another bottle?" He asked as he gestured to the full cabinet behind him. "These two are the most popular and it seems like my first guess was the best fit for you, Azarel. If you don't mind me saying." Shane subtly put a few of the dots together aloud, showing Azarel that he was willing to play his little game and try to figure out the mystery.
The feelings that Shane could read of the man before him were playful and curious. Not to mention Azarel had mentioned he was new to the neighborhood. This was all very interesting to Shane and he kept a close eye on him because of it. Not in a bad way but just to keep things on an even keel. It was important to Shane to keep the mood fun and light for all customers.
