His job had been to provide information, and Tamiel had never once questioned the quality of the information he'd been given. But the job was over now, and he was allowed to do or mingle as he pleased just so long as he was ready to listen when he was needed next. And he always was, enthusiastically so, by the time it was relevant. For now, though, he could sit quietly and peoplewatch. He would have loved to be talking, but... well, people didn't notice him most of the time. Maybe it was the invisibility that he'd been ordered to have on most of the time, so that the humans didn't get upset or scared from seeing him. But he didn't think they would be. He wasn't very scary at all.
Well, not most of the time, anyway. He might be to one of the Fallen angels... but he didn't know. He'd never met one. He didn't know whether or not that was a good thing, or whether or not he wanted to.
The night sky hung above him like a blanket, and he looked up at it with a smile. His favorite stars were never hard to find, at least not for him. He supposed he had been looking for them for quite a long time, so he knew their positions by heart now. He wasn't supposed to tell the humans about them, though he'd never been told why. But who was going to question it? Not him, that was certain.
With a small sigh, he tucked away his wings and dropped his invisibility, swinging his feet off the ledge he was seated upon. He'd like someone to talk to. That... That would be nice.
Tamiel heard a noise near him, cocking his head to the side in mild confusion. "Hello?" he offered, his voice light and welcoming. "Is someone there? If you'd like to talk, I'm more than willing."

Earth was beautiful.
Heaven was beautiful, as well, divine light that shone over every surface and illuminated every face and thought, but there was a serene beauty to Earth that Heaven did not possess. And, perhaps, centuries of admiring Heaven were taking their toll on Raphael, just a little. He was ready for a change of scenery, if only briefly. And the stars shone like pinpricks when one gazed up from the ground.
Flying through the sky was a thrill at night. The gold on his wings made him shine brightly, and he had seen before humans pointing up and calling him a shooting star. It gave them hope, something to dream for, and that gave him a sense of great contentment. For a species whose life was so short, Raphael enjoyed giving humans as much hope as he could.
He had been flying for a while when he noticed one of his many siblings. He couldn't tell who from this distance, though he was curious. So many angels chose to leave Heaven as infrequently as possible - Raphael came and went quite a fair bit, healing was far easier in proximity than through just prayer - that he didn't always come across another on his trips. Gliding to the ground and landing, Raphael pulled his wings into his skin, the marks on his arms and around his torso covered by his robes, and walked up behind the angel. How curious it was, to walk and hear the ground crunch under his feet.
"It's uncommon for one of us to watch the stars," he said, answering his sibling. "Not many appreciate the beauty from here."
Which was in many ways a pity, because how the light dotted the Earth. Ice floes, far from where they were but impressive with their mass, reflected the lights that danced in the night sky. "What brings you out here?"

Though he didn't know his visitor personally, Tamiel could tell that they were siblings instantly. To be fair, he hadn't met most of his siblings personally. They often had very different jobs and very different locations where they did their work. It was still nice to see one of them around, though. Tamiel didn't have a vast number of friends, but he had enough to enjoy going back to see them. He tried not to get too close to the humans on a personal level. He wasn't supposed to, and they were too fragile and short-lived for it to be wise anyway. But another angel? Another potential friend, or at least another being to chat with? He was quite eager for that.
"I think they're quite fascinating," Tamiel replied, his voice quiet. "The shapes the humans discern from them are particularly intriguing. I appreciate the beauty in many of the things on Earth, I suppose." He blinked, swinging his legs lightly. "My name's Tamiel. I'm a messenger. There was a girl in this town... I had to pass on some information. She was very kind, though also very quiet. Don't get me wrong, I love my work dearly, but there doesn't tend to be a whole lot of time between my jobs, so I usually stay down here unless I'm told to come home. And that's always a bit of a treat, I suppose." Giving the other a small smile, he turned to look back up at the stars. "I don't usually see others while I'm down here, though. And that's a bit of a treat in and of itself. I'm a bit curious about why you're here, as well." As a slight blush crept across his face, he murmured, "I hope it was mostly coincidence. I'd hate to have inconvenienced you at all, or to have wasted your time."
Others often seemed to think it strange that such an extroverted, excitable person could be so shy to new people, but it was what it was, he supposed.

If he were to be completely honest with himself - and he always was, as a rule, completely honest - the answer Raphael received was more than a little surprising. So many of his siblings were focused on their duties or on turning their noses down on humans that to simply sit and admire the stars on an aesthetic level was bizarre. That this sibling did just that immediately endeared them to Raphael.
"I'm of the same mind," he said, turning his eyes upwards to the night sky, "Stars are beautiful up close, when you can see the fire of their being in detail, but the way humans view them is charming in its own way. It requires such creativity to imagine the shapes they form, as you said."
He kept his voice soft, rather than break the peace of the calm night. With many angels, the sense of strictly following the rules and being almost stuffy made conversations such as this difficult, though he felt no need. Instead, Raphael was comfortable stepping forwards and sitting beside his siblings, letting his feet dangle off the edge. He turned his head and nodded as he listened. "A pleasure, Tamiel, it's a pity we've never met before. My name is Raphael. I'm no messenger like you, though I've heard of the work the messengers have done and it's quite impressive. I'm a healer, instead, so I spend most of my time on Earth, as well. It's been... far too long since I paused between healings, if I were to admit it."
And it had. Raphael could not remember the last time he'd done this, just sat and enjoyed a quiet moment to watch the sky. Let alone do so with someone else. It was nice - more than nice, it was divine in a different sort of way than he was used to. "I think running across each other was a wonderful coincidence, but don't fret - it doesn't inconvenience me at all, and I could ask the same of you."

Tamiel's lips formed a gentle curve upward as he, too, kept his voice down and looked at Raphael. "They are quite amazing. The stars and the humans, I mean. I quite like them both." If one asked Tamiel to choose between the two, he wouldn't have been able to make a decision. They were both beautiful and amazing in their own separate ways.
The angel blushed at the other's compliment. "Oh! Well, um, thank you, Raphael. I do find it unfortunate that we haven't met before now, but I'm very pleased that we've met now as well. I find your work absolutely inspiring, actually. You help people to recover from pain, and... I have a great deal of affection for the humans, so I find your position very admirable." His blush deepened slightly, and he looked down at his legs. This was quite strange. He'd felt attraction toward women before, or so he'd thought, but what he was feeling for Raphael was... a very different sort of experience. With the females it had been an aesthetic appreciation of form, with Raphael it was... a strange, warming desire to wrap himself up in the healing angel's arms. He felt his face grow even redder. "Also, you are very attractive."
Tamiel regretted saying that instantly, but didn't take his statement back--he had meant it, wholly and truly. "If you, um, if you haven't got anything else to do right now, I'd really appreciate spending some time with you and getting to know you. I think you're quite intriguing, and I'd like to talk some more about different things and opinions and all sorts of things. I'm sorry, I really like talking and I'm a bit nervous because I'm not sure what to do with my emotions." Though he was quite adept at not telling the truth as a part of his job, he didn't like to do it in his personal life. He tried his hardest to be honest and open, even when it was less than convenient for him in the long run. And surely it was less convenient for him to have just admitted what he did--while he didn't expect Raphael to be repulsed, he also didn't expect him to reciprocate.

Raphael hummed, a quiet affirmative nearly inaudible in the gentle breeze, and rested his weight back on the palms of his hands. "Humans are such a creative species," he said, "It's incredible what they come up with. When they chart the stars I have no doubt that they'll create wonderful stories and legends - I can't wait."
"It's awful that we haven't met sooner," Raphael agreed. There was something unbelievably pleasant about resting his wings and leaning back, admiring the view from Earth. “From what I understand, you spend as much time down here as I do, and it’s not a massive planet - but perhaps, better late than never, as they say.” And that was exactly how he felt about it. It was a pity that he and Tamiel hadn’t run into each other sooner, because then they could have spent time conversing for who knows how long, but Raphael was glad that they’d met now. “We both play an important part for humans. I try to ensure they stay healthy and happy, and you go beyond that. To teach them such things is wondrous, very admirable. I might keep them whole, but the messengers! You help them to grow.”
Tamiel’s next words caught him off-guard, and Raphael blinked before turning to look at him. He’d never been called attractive before. None had taken in his visage and thought it desirable, or at least, not to his face. It was...not unpleasant, and a rosy blush made Raphael’s cheeks pink. His confusion left his mouth hanging open, unsure of what to say, and Raphael cleared his throat and tried again, because to say nothing would be rude to such a declaration. “I’ve never been called that before.”
Which was not what he meant to say, and he hastened to add, “I like it.”
With a smile, cheeks still hot from blushing, Raphael nodded. “I would be more than happy to stay a while. There’s no one in desperate need of my assistance, for now, and I think I’d like to stay in any case. No need to apologise, not even a little bit. Don’t be nervous."

Tamiel's face continued to steadily gain color. "Well--um--I'm flattered." His hands began twitching. "I, um, I love doing what I do. I've been gifted with the Divine Speech, so, um. It's sort of what I was meant to do, I think." He began kneading his hands together, taking a few deep breaths. "But I truly admire the work of the healers, and I'm very excited that we've met now."
Raphael's reaction caught Tamiel off guard as well. "Oh. Oh! That, um, that's good." He felt like his chest was tightening. "I mean, it is true. I find your appearance aesthetically pleasing. Our Father was particularly inspired when He created you, I think. Not--not that He's not normally inspired when He creates us! But I think He did an even better job than normal. I think He intended truly great things for you."
Tamiel continued to wring his hands, battling with his emotions. Surely to feel this way was bad? He had been given emotions... but emotions like this may have been the sort that made others fall. He didn't want to defy or anger his Father, but... This was something he'd never felt before.
And it felt... good.
So, he ventured the risk and took a deep breath. "I know this must be strange to hear, but..." As he started thinking about what he wanted to ask, he felt his throat lock up. Lifting a hand slowly, he paused. "May I, um..." Shuddering, Tamiel made eye contact with Raphael, his hand still hanging awkwardly in the air. "M-m-may I touch you? I, um, I don't mean to be offensive or weird, I'm sorry, I just--I don't know, it--I'm having confusing emotions at present, please forgive me."

It was obvious to Raphael that they both held a great deal of respect for the responsibilities held by the other, which made sense. Tamiel helped humans to better themselves, Raphael helped to keep them whole. Perhaps, in a way, messengers and healers were interconnected roles, building on the work done by each other for the betterment of humanity. “I think it fair to say that you’ve been quite successful - it’s a wonderful gift, and man has come so far from even a century ago. It’s quite admirable.”
Had Raphael not been blushing before, he certainly would now. “That’s - that’s very flattering, I’m honoured and, and quite honoured, at that.” Low in his stomach was an uncoiling ribbon, twisting and fluttering and making him all the more flustered. This was a foreign feeling - humans who had seem him in their sickness and delirium had complimented him, shouting that he shone with divine beauty. That was pleasant enough, but this was far from that. Much more personal and intimate, and - left him feeling a great deal warmer. Despite the twittering ribbon in his gut, Raphael could not deny what he saw. “It would be easy for me to say the same of you. I don’t think I could possibly articulate it as beautifully, but I... "
Pausing, he tried to find the phrasing that best fit. “I deal in medicines, healing. I am at my happiest when people are healthy. And yet I find your appearance makes me equally as happy as that.”
Despite leaning back on his hands moments before, he sat straighter, hands in his lap, cursing his inelegance in speaking. Normally finding words that fit and flowed wasn’t so difficult. His confusion in this new feeling certainly didn’t help.
“You may,” Raphael said, tilting his head to one side. “I think I would like it if you touched me, yes.” With a surprising spot of boldness, he added, “I would like it if you did.”

Raphael's comment about Tamiel's appearance made his entire mouth go numb. It was odd, to not be able to find the words to express how absolutely flattered he was that his appearance made the healer happy, to not be able to express anything at all except that his mouth was opening and closing like a fish lying on the beach. A fish lying on the beach in the presence of a very attractive man, Tamiel supposed. He took a moment to compose himself, then allowed his tied tongue to unravel as he spoke.
"That's very kind of you," he said, deciding to cut himself off before he said anything more embarrassing. When given permission, he reached forward and brought his hand to lightly touch Raphael's cheek. There was a stirring in his belly, something that made him definitely want to keep going with what he was doing. He hesitated. Raphael's skin was so soft. He'd never felt like this before. What was going on?
"I think that I like you very much," Tamiel murmured. "My stomach is doing flips after just touching you." He looked down at Raphael's lips, wetting his own with a slight slip of the tongue. The humans pressed their lips together when they wanted to show affection, though Tamiel was not sure that was the correct response to the current situation. He wasn't sure what to do at all. He supposed he'd wait for Raphael to make a move instead, or to show some form of further interest, before he went into anything of that depth.
His fingertips ran down Raph's neck, settling down on his shoulder. "This is very comfortable for me. I'm enjoying this quite a lot, and I'd like to make sure that you are as well." The last thing he wanted was to be making Raphael uncomfortable. "I am uncertain of what many of my feelings are denoting, however. Might you have any more experience with feelings of this sort?"
