Jo had nearly smacked herself for agreeing to this little bound-to-be-awkward reunion. I mean, what ex girlfriend/best friend/ person with same morals coffee date wouldn't be awkward? Just tack on the fact that one's an angel and the other a demon and you've got yourself a meeting worth publishing an article on the cover of New York Times.
In any case, she had felt as if she'd already done too much by agreeing to a meeting, and the same day as the initial contact in over xxx amount of years. Jo wasn't about to travel far for this either, so she had told Fyrelia to meet her in her city, so she wouldn't be terribly inconvenienced by such a menial and sure to be painful meeting. In honesty, Jo was just concerned at the fact that she wasn't really thinking any of these things at all, or not as seriously, for excitement clouded out all judgement. Yes, this woman had become "evil". Yes, she was certainly different than she was back when her and Jo were together. But, this did not change the connection they had and how much Jo missed her.
No, she could not show this side of her feelings on their meeting. She couldn't erase the elation she had felt when Fy had texted, but it didn't mean she had to show it. And she certainly didn't, with those not-so-friendly texts. She would feel like a traitor to God and herself if she just ran and up and embraced Fy like nothing had changed. Yet, she still dressed to impress, in a white jumpsuit, 5 inch gold pointed heels, and strategically done makeup. She threw her purse over her shoulder and make it to the cafe in record time, snatching a table before the tourists could get to it. This was Rockefeller Center, after all.
Jo waited anxiously for Fyrelia to arrive, ordering a decaffeinated coffee and strawberry tart so she would have something to preoccupy herself with. Perhaps it was a bit rude to order before Fy arrived, but she wasn't concerned with niceties at the moment. She was making sure that she would actually stay for Fy to arrive instead of ditching. For all these years, she was sure that shutting off contact with her was the best course of action, but now she wasn't so sure...

Fy was more than just a little excited to see her ex once again.
Though it had been years and one major Fall since they had last seen each other, to Fy, it still felt like it was yesterday. Perhaps that was what the humans truly meant when they said time flies; for, though she could not often remember the day or the week before, Fyrelia had no trouble recalling the years she and Jo had spent up in Heaven. They had raced through the clouds, laughing and trying to knock each other away. They had gone cloud racing, they had visited the humans, even as the little babes waddled through that delightful garden...
She had so many memories of her Angelic Knight, and still held a fondness deep in her heart for her. They were completely opposites; Fy the embodiment of Lust and Wrath, and Jophiel the opposite, the Knight of Temperance and Honesty. That was why they had gotten along so well, or at least that was Fy's theory. Two people with like personality often butted headed, but opposite ends of the spectrum stuck to balancing each other out. With hope in her heart, the woman exited the cab.
They could be like that again, she tried to tell herself. Jophiel was loyal to their Father, and she respected that. She did not approve, and Fyrelia herself hated their Father, but Jophiel was a Daddy's Girl. She hung around Metatron, for Father's Sake. There was no way the precious Knight of Honesty would do anything more than bat an eyelash at the Abrahamic God's orders. But God had never told Jophiel to ignore Fy, at least not to the demon's knowledge, and there was no way Father would have thought to forbid them from interacting...
She wasn't going to give her friend up, not this time -- not without a fight.
She hurried through the streets of New York, her heels clicking against the stone. If one looked close enough, they might have noticed that, with each click, a little spark flared up. Hell was rising up to grant her pleasure. It was enough to make her giddy.
"Hey, you," Fyrelia murmured, as soon as she was standing behind the angel. One hand came down, and her fingers trailed up Jophiel's back, between where her wings would have been. Before Joph could protest, however, she was settling down across from her. A grin split her face. She crossed one leg over the other. "Lookin' as beautiful as ever, I see. Did the Big Guy finally release you to join us lowly monsters?"

Jo’s heart was beating like crazy-from anxiousness, from excitement, from this coffee (wait, was this caffeinated??). She couldn’t help but tap her pretty long nails against the table as she waited, each second feeling like an hour. She had never been so sensitive to time in her life; her entire existence hadn’t felt as long as these few minutes spent waiting for who was her first and only love.
A whisper of fingers crawled up her back as she heard a familiar, and still lovely, voice. Jo shivered involuntarily at the touch; it had been forever since she had been touched like that, and besides that, no one affected her like Fyrelia did.
The angel didn’t know what to expect when she turned around. Horns? A tail? Perhaps a pitchfork? It was ridiculous because Joph knew better than anyone that demons looked as much human as she did on earth, and didn't exactly look like that down in Hell either. She was probably spending too much time with the humans, and was now thinking like them.
She didn’t even get a chance to turn around before her spunky ex sat down across from her, looking as comfortable as ever. How did she do it? Fy looked different from her Heavenly self, but nonetheless lovely and as radiant as ever. Whereas Jo was a constant soft glow, Fyrelia was wild, bright sparks. They had nothing in common and that is what made them so close, up until now.
There were some difference that weren’t as easy to look past as others. Those in personality, and even those in morals. But this difference in morals was just a little bit too polar. Typically, an angel and demon didn’t get along unless they were seven year old children on Halloween.
Jo couldn’t help but feel warm inside from Fy’s compliment. It had been so long ago that she had cut herself off from true romantic feelings that it was like fireworks going off inside of her now. “Actually, I’ve been living on earth for awhile, like you.” Not nearly as long as Fyrelia, but it had been awhile, especially for an angel. “You look lovely too.” The words slipped out of her mouth, but she didn’t regret them.
This was kind of awkward…what would they discuss now? “So…how have things been? It’s like you dropped out of existence for the past several years.” ‘Several’ not as in 3 or 4, but like, a lot more. ‘Several’ was an understatement. This whole dropping out of existence from each other’s lives was both of their faults, and the fact that they were just meeting up now, so randomly, was strange but like a breath of fresh (if not a little bit guilty) air.

God, she was still as beautiful as ever.
But, really, what did Fyrelia expect? Jophiel was still the same angel from all those years ago; still so beautiful, still soften spoken, and still so naive. It was almost-- No, scratch that. It was completely adorable, especially with how completely different they were. Fy was fire; beautiful to look at and warm to behold, but no one could dare to underestimate her. Jophiel was more like the air; comforting and gentle, soft and kind. It took an entire change of season to push her past her limits.
But no matter how soft Jophiel appeared, Fyrelia knew the truth. Jophiel was a Knight of God for a reason; she could defeat any foe and save any soul she desired. Any soul except, perhaps, Fy's. Not that angels or demons had souls, anyways. They were beings created to simply worship, and thus their Father had assumed they needed no soul. That was why death was so terrifying for them, and why Fy refused to return to Heaven. She was a demon, and she would stay that way. Even if it cost her everything.
"Actually, I’ve been living on earth for awhile, like you. ...you look lovely, too."
At that, Fyrelia smiled, reaching over to gently squeeze Jophiel's hand, "I'm glad he let you come down here, Jo. It's been a while, I know, but you can trust me when I say these humans are the most intriguing things. Some of them care, like you, while others follow me. Some tend to not care at all. And then there are their careers. They have to work to enjoy life." She leaned back in her seat, shook her head. "Nothing at all like the paradise we had, hm?"
The waiter came over, and Fy asked for a mocha iced coffee and a small pastry. Unlike the humans, she had the ability to change her shape and appearance. There was no "gaining a few pounds" for her. But even if she was human, with the amount of work she did on that pole every night, a pastry and an iced coffee were not going to add anything more to her than she wanted. That could be guaranteed.
"Dropped out of existence?" The demon echoed, then sighed, shrugging. "I guess you could say that, Jo. Vor's been at it again, trying to raise the apocalypse. Hell on earth, demons everywhere -- that sort of thing. And while I like hell - I do, believe me - I don't want it here. I have a family to care for, and my business is doing well. If Vor was to get all of us together, he would ruin everything I've worked for. So I'm hiding."
She took the iced coffee from the waiter and brought it to her lips without hesitation, "What about you?"
