FULL NAME:: Adam Wendell Wolfe
NICKNAMES:: "Spirit of Chicago," "Windy," "Wendy," "Firework." Cruel nicknames include but are not limited to "Wendigo" and "Aww."
GENDER:: Agender
ACTUAL AGE:: 177
APPARENT AGE:: Somewhere in his 20's
SPECIES/RACE:: Spirit (landvaettir)
PREFERRED PRONOUNS:: he/his, because of how he manifests, though she, they, and it pronouns are also all acceptable
SEXUAL ORIENTATION:: Omnisexual
FACECLAIM:: Andrew Garfield
NATIONALITY:: American
HEIGHT:: 6' 1"
HAIR:: Burnt sienna
EYES:: Usually charcoal grey, sometimes brown
SKIN:: Pale
DISTINGUISHING MARKS:: A series of birthmarks on his back denote the scale-accurate location of every intersection in Chicago, though some of them are very difficult to see. A burn scar on the right half of his body, going from his shoulder down his back, forms the exact shape of Lake Michigan's Chicago coastline and waters.
APPEARANCE:: Adam's appearance has been known to vary depending on the day. Most of the time, he appears as a slightly tall brunette male who tends to dress like a university student. Sometimes he has tentacles in addition to this, depending on how much he wants to intimidate someone (or hug them with 8 extra appendages). Sometimes he's a fire-wreathed humanoid, a bit like the Human Torch. On the shore of Lake Michigan, he's usually a small floating ball of fire reminiscent of a will-o'-thewisp. Sometimes he likes to take on a form more like that of Calcifer, from Howl's Moving Castle. It really depends on when and where you catch him.
There are a few constants, though. His humanoid forms always wear glasses. He seems a bit bookish and nerdy in both attire and demeanor. When he's in a human form, he uses fingerless gloves to cover the burns on his hands. His hair is always short and unkempt, even if he's appearing extremely feminine, and it is only ever somewhere between red and brown in color.
PERSONALITY:: Much like the city itself, Adam's nature tends to be describable as "cosmopolitan." He's usually polite and tries to be as knowledgable as possible, making friends of as many different cultures as he can find. He's a bit of a foodie... well, a bit is an understatement. Despite his laid-back style of dress, he's artistic and can be a little nitpicky about style. He prefers his life fast-paced, and hates not having something to do or being bored.
Oftentimes, Adam finds himself going to the park or spending time at zoos. He loves animals, even if they don't always love him, and even has affection for the pigeons and rats that seem to be the bane of every city. Though he is technically allowed to leave the limits of the city proper, Adam rarely ventures into the suburbs or surrounding cities because he finds it draining. In fact, he rarely goes anywhere he can't access via rapid transit. He's not a very big fan of driving, and doesn't own a car besides.
More than anything else, though, he enjoys the atmosphere of his home. He's gone to the Field Museum more times than he can count, and okay, maybe he's climbed on Sue and pretended to ride her while he was invisible at least once. He likes to have fun, and he likes it when his city is fun. Adam finds the alleged Curse of the Billy Goat to be hilarious, andmay or may not have definitely has had a direct hand in keeping it alive during every Cubs home game since its genesis in 1945. After all, what's a city without a little superstition?

Well, okay, it was an accident, but the cow definitely took the blame for something he did. Not that you can really blame a land spirit anyway.

HISTORY:: Adam doesn't ever really remember being born or actively created, strictly speaking. He remembers that there used to be a lot of much smaller pieces of him, and that maybe they were separate spirits, but around 1837, they came together and sort of popped into being as one whole. After some research, he discovered that this was the time that Chicago was incorporated. He didn't really do a whole lot for a long time, just sort of hung around and made sure that the city was growing and thriving.
In 1871, Adam was messing around in a barn while tangible to play with some animals when he accidentally knocked over a lantern. In his fear, he turned intangible and hightailed it out of there. This turned into the Great Chicago Fire, during which many parts of his body received burns due to its effects on the city. Until the rebuilding efforts were complete, parts of his body were blackened and unusable, and he retains a burn scar to this day. However, as the city grew and recuperated, so did the spirit, and soon the energy flowing through the area was free once more. It didn't take Adam very long to find out that following the fire, he'd gained the ability to start them himself. He never did so on any buildings, not wanting to relive the excruciating pain he'd accidentally put himself through, but it was fun to toy with every once in a while.
As the years passed, Adam realized that as the city grew, so did his capabilities. He could move things with his mind, such as leaves across the sidewalk--well, he was the Windy City, after all, so that was only natural--and could make his fires burst into showers of sparks of all colors. He grew fond of fireworks shows, and this was where his interest in making people happy found its beginning. When people were happy with him, they gave energy back to him in happiness and gratitude, and he loved it. So, whenever possible, Adam set out to help make people happy, performing altruistic actions whenever possible. He started work in voice acting, doing projects when they were about to shut down from lack of funding or interest so he wouldn't be taking jobs away from those who needed them, and did his best to improve the quality of life in the city as a whole. Today, Adam buys meals for the homeless and does his best to peacefully resolve violent situations when he can. The city's gang violence and poverty bother him immensely, so whenever he can, he tries to make life better for those who suffer just trying to live within his city limits.
He found the internet not all that long ago, and once he'd done some research on spirits of the land, he decided that he identified as a landvaettir. Being the spirit of Chicago, he couldn't really leave when the war broke out and turned Chicago into the center of human activity, but he figured that there would be others pretending to be human as well. He's spent his time continuing to help others when he can, going out of his way to aid those in need and shelter supernatural beings, and has scared the daylights out of some would-be aggressors. Adam rents a studio apartment with the money he makes from voice acting and fireworks so that he can house those who need a place to hide.
