FULL NAME:: Oberon Mabson
NICKNAMES:: Obbie, Obe, Dorkberon, Obie Wan Kenobie, other ridiculous things
GENDER:: Male
ACTUAL AGE:: Who the hell knows
APPARENT AGE:: Anywhere in the thirties
SPECIES/RACE:: Old Fae
PREFERRED PRONOUNS:: He/him/his
SEXUAL ORIENTATION:: Pansexual Polyamorus
FACECLAIM:: David Tennant
NATIONALITY:: Scottish
HEIGHT:: 6'1"
HAIR:: Dark brown
EYES:: Left one blue with the appearance of waves and/or ice; right one full of flickering flame. Appear a deep brown when he's trying to pass for human.
SKIN:: Pale and freckled
DISTINGUISHING MARKS:: His eyes, for one. Scars all along his body. A giant pair of Bawn Owl wings on his back. Big ol' pointy ears.
APPEARANCE:: Oberon is, all in all, a relatively handsome man, if not conventionally so. He has low-set cheekbones, fluffy brown hair cut to have noticeable sideburns, and a crooked, sloping nose. His eyebrows are slightly larger than average, but it compliments him. He has an expressive face, pale, freckled skin, friendly-looking eyes, and a smile that is never anything but crooked. He's tall, especially for his family, which is mostly on the short side. On top of that, he's skinny to the point of being able to see his ribs, and lanky; he's been described as an "attractive twig". He has thick hair on his chest, arms, and legs.
In the fae realm, Oberon prefers to go around shirtless and shoeless, just covering up what he has to. When court is being held, he wears his crown, which grows out into the antlers of a stag just for him. In the human world, however, he has to be fully clothed -- and he tends to wear very non-formal things, in that case. T-shirts, jeans, etc. Just whatever he can find and throw on. He ends up looking fairly scruffy.
PERSONALITY:: Oberon is a multi-faceted man. At his core, he's a bit too much like his eldest son for comfort. He loves to play jokes and tricks, any sort of petty pranks that will bring both a smile to his and, hopefully, his victim's faces. He tells corny jokes; he does stupid things. He likes to smile, and he likes to see other people do the same, so he tries his hardest to make it so. Of course, for some more serious folk, this can get rather annoying. But, being a fae, he doesn't care. He's a child at heart, and most likely where the rest of the fae that are the same got it from.
However, he also has more than a few deep-rooted problems.
After what his mother subjected him to, he abhors being touched by anyone he doesn't explicitly trust, such as the children he raised, his wife, and a select few of his friends (such as Liliana). Even his surviving siblings are not exempt from this -- in fact, for the role a few of them had in it, he won't even so much as look at them, and they're lucky they're even allowed in the kingdom. Around people he's unfamiliar with, or children he hasn't seen in a long time, he's quiet and stoic, and can come off as overly harsh. He has a reputation for that, too; after Jareth's betrayal, that was the only side of himself he showed for a long, long while, which is why Puck's punishment was as harsh as it was. Oberon is prone to long, severe "down" spikes, where he hardly has enough energy to do anything. If it gets too bad, sometimes he'll just lay in bed and sleep for days on end -- that is, if Titania lets him.
Oberon is intelligent, though. He's very good at watching faces and picking up on cues from people's body language. Though he is by no means in charge of the kingdom, he's a good stand-in when Titania is busy, and has proven himself worthy of her through what counsel he can give her -- though he is of the mind that he is most certainly not worthy.

Oberon was the first child born to Mab. Now, he was not her first subject; by the time he was born, his mother had already amassed a large, if ragtag at the time, kingdom. Many of her subjects were created out of snow or ice by her own hand, though some where Summer's throwaways, criminals who had been banished for their cruelty or otherwise people who had left of their own free will to live their lives in a kingdom that better suited their personalities. Oberon was either something Mab had forgotten to nip in the bud before it was too late -- she was known to take many lovers of many kinds -- or he was something simply born of her body and hers alone; no one was quite sure. But because he was born, because he was so weak he needed her for his survival, he disgusted her from the moment she first held him in her arms.
Winter abhors weakness.
She began to verbally abuse him when he was old enough to truly understand what was being said to him. It was always tempered with the smallest amount of praise possible, just enough to keep him from resenting her and from realizing that there was something wrong. She beat and turned and molded his mind like a blacksmith does a sword, until he was loyal completely and utterly to her. After he was about seven years old, her words became coupled with ringed fists or open palms or the blunt end of a guard's weapon whenever he disappointed her. After each blow, she'd coo to him, tell him that she hated hurting him so, but that he had to learn. Oberon became convinced that he'd never truly learn, and that he was lucky that his mother still kept him. When he was sixteen, and she felt the need for a lover, she pulled him to her bed and forced him to please her; he felt that he couldn't tell her no, so even as he cried, he did what was asked of him. She continued using him after that, and from that point on, that was the only thing she ever gave him true praise for. Oberon came to think it was the only thing he was good for.
In secret, Oberon learned that he could conjure and control fire. He told no one about this, knowing it would only disgust his mother further.
Oberon was little more than Mab's tool, by the time he was grown. Though she'd had several other children after him, he was her "favorite", and the one she kept the tightest hold on. Oberon had taken several lovers and fathered several children, but his mother had killed or frozen each and every one of them to keep him by her side. Mab knew the prophecy that he would marry Summer's Daughter, but she kept it from Oberon, so that he would never know he could be anything more than her servant. However, Mab still needed Summer out of the way -- she wanted to be the one and only ruler of the fae. She felt that she could further her plans by destroying his only daughter, so when Titania was out on her own, Mab conjured up a blizzard, then sent her son out with the orders to kill her.
But the moment Oberon saw Titania, he fell in love.
Perhaps it was some spell Summer had cast on his daughter. Perhaps a part of Oberon knew the role she would play in his life. Whatever it was, he could not bring himself to kill her. Instead, he pulled her into his arms and conjured up a fire from within him, warming the shaking, shivering thing and kissing her hair to comfort her. In that moment, he vowed to himself to protect her at any and all costs. Nothing was going to hurt her -- not even his mother.
When Mab arrived on the scene, she was appalled by what she saw. She screamed at Oberon, and slapped him, and he let her. But when she threatened Titania, he burst into flames and, just as he'd predicted, she was disgusted by him. She banished him from the Winter Kingdom. With no where else to go, Oberon followed Titania back to her home. Summer revealed to prophecy to them, and soon after they were wed, the rest of the Old Fae fading back into the earth as they did. Titania and Oberon were left to foster their own kingdom, only a few of Oberon's siblings left to keep them company.
Titania resented Oberon, at first. Oberon was as loyal to her as he had been to Mab -- she was his salvation, in his eyes, his reason to keep on living. But she was a young Summer Fae, and she didn't like to be tied down. Eventually, however, she grew to love him, and his puppy-like adoration of her grew to be actual, healthy love. They brought child after child into the world, and Oberon grew to favor Puck, their first born and their heir. He tried not to play favorites, though; he loved each and every one of his children, and treated them as such. However, Jareth's betrayal hardened him for centuries, turning him nearly as harsh as his mother had once been -- but that, too, passed, even with its consequences.
Oberon is more or less happy, now. He's searching for the mirror he trapped Puck in, trying to right the wrong he made when he was in a less amiable state of mind.

- Drawing and other mediums of visual art
- Fire and playing with it

- Being lazy
- Getting to play with the little ones
DISLIKES::
- Arguing with Titania
- When his children hit the rebellious stage (sometimes literally)
- Being treated as inferior or second-best
- Being told he is inferior or second-best
- Figures that remind him of his mother
- The nagging fear that he's not good enough to hold the crown
- Ice, though he wields it
- The random bouts of numbness he has
- The random bouts of intense emotions he has
STRENGTHS::
- Very charismatic when he wants to be
- Clever
- Reads people fairly easily
- Good sense of humor
- A good father, now that he's calmed down
- Intimidating when he has to be
- A good consort
WEAKNESSES::

{ RACIAL SPECIFICS } |
RANK:: King of All Fae, Consort to Titania
POWERS::
- Magic Manipulation:: Much stronger than most fae, considering his age and his status and the fact that he spawned the vast majority of the fae walking around today.
- Glamour: Again, much stronger than most fae. Anything he wants to hide his hidden from all, save the most powerful of deities.
- Immortality: Unless killed by iron, he cannot die. Even if he is killed, his soul can be placed within a child of his line (preferably mostly human) so that he can grow within them and live on.
- Pyrokinesis: He is the fire of Avalon, and so is tremendously powerful with fire, especially in the fae realm, which he helped to create. When he is angry, in the "hot" sort of way, the area around him will quickly heat until it becomes almost unbearable to anyone who isn't him.
- Hydrokinesis: He is Avalon's lakes and streams, its oceans and rivers, and so has power over water, and is especially powerful there. He can summon tidal waves within his own realm -- in the human realm, he can do smaller things, like make water float around. He also has powers over ice, partially because of his status and partially because of his parentage, and can freeze or warm water as he chooses.
WEAKNESSES::
- Iron
- Inability to lie
