Okay, so countless years ago, Jophiel and the other angels were created by God, her and the other Archangels specifically to assist the the newest form of intelligent life and make sure they didn't all kill each other, essentially. So God had created The Knight of Honesty as a Korean woman in her mid-twenties. Even though she could and had changed form temporarily, she has stayed true her first form, the one that God had given her. Since Jo was given this visage, she figured she may as well learn about the place where her features came from. Also, this place worked into her human story, which was used on several documents and conversation.
Instead of taking what would have been a 16 hour flight, she used some of her angelic abilities to kind of sort of teleport to Seoul, Korea. Jo wasn't exactly sure what she was expecting, but it certainly wasn't what was there. Having come from New York City, she expected something like that because they were both large crowded cities. However, after arriving in the city, she realized that Seoul was very much its own metropolitan area. She arrived perhaps a second or two after she teleported, and was brought into an alley, because just appearing in a crowded area would be just a bit suspicious.
After walking out of the alley and exploring, she was in awe. First off, everyone looked like Jo. Okay, that sounds racist. Everyone was very similar. In New York City, there were people of all different cultures and backgrounds, but here it wasn't as multicultural. Secondly, the technology was impressive. She had heard that Korea was one of the technological strongholds of the world, but being there really showed that. Third, and her favorite, it was clean! As clean as a city could be, but still very clean! She could lick an inch of the sidewalk without touching some nasty gum, and that was saying something.
After exploring and speaking with some natives, she passed an ice cream shop that was too tempting just to pass up. Jo ordered a peach mango ice cream in a cone and paid for it. She licked it as she walked out, trying not to have it drip all over her fingers. However, she wasn't paying attention like she should have in this crowded area. Not three feet out of the store she walked right into someone and her delicious ice cream ended up out of the cone and on the person's shirt.
She looked up, eyes wide, face as innocent as anyone could manage, at the victim. Jo was pretty much ready to get down on her hands and knees and apologize. And then of course, buy the person a new shirt. "I am so sorry! Mian haeyo!" she spouted off in both English and Korean, shoving her napkins at the person.

NOTES [ i hope you don't mind that i popped in! ] | Tiamat hadn't been in Seoul for very long, and hadn't really planned to stay. They'd gone there for a business meeting, and it had concluded only a few hours ago. Though surely Tiamat could fly home using their wings, Tia preferred to wait for the plane. After all, there may have been benefits to flying themselves, but first class was not one of them.
Of course, if they'd started off now instead of deciding to book a plane, maybe their outfit wouldn't be covered in rapidly melting ice cream.
You are joking. You've got to be joking! This was expensive! Attie lamented, her mental voice brimming with anguish. And designer, too! Matt, look down so I can see the damage. Is it too far gone to try to fix?
No. It's fine. Don't worry about it, and try to calm down. Matt accepted the napkins with a polite nod, dabbing at the shirt. "It's alright. It'll wash out, I'm sure. I've just finished the important part of my meeting, besides. Are you alright?" He raised an eyebrow at the Korean woman.
The logical thing to do is to offer to get her a new cone, Ama thought, her tone slightly bored. You were paying just as little attention as she was.
Well it might be easier if everyone wasn't screaming all the time! Creti retorted. All anyone ever does is bicker! It's a wonder we get anything done in the first place!
Speaking of getting things done. Pay attention. We'll be completely lost if you don't listen to what she's saying. She'll likely tell us whether or not she actually wants a new ice cream cone. Either that, or she'll fly off the handle and try to murder us. If that happens, we need to be prepared.
With a sigh, Tiamat's head went comparatively quiet as Matt awaited a response from Jophiel. "I can get you a new cone, if you'd like, and if you promise to be more careful with this one. After all, I wasn't paying much attention either."

After she had stopped freaking out and hyperventilating (not really, but she might as well have been for as worked up she was over this), Jo noticed that she had run into a very business-y looking woman who was certainly not from the area. Well, the suit told the whole story, for Seoul was a large business capital of the world, and not as irrelevant as most people thought Korea was in general. Now, these business types could be very hard and scary, and quite frankly she was expecting the kind of reaction that would be cringe-worthy.
However, Jophiel was pleasantly surprised by a rather calm reaction instead. She felt terrible about the whole situation, but at least the other person wasn't trying to make her feel even worse. "I feel terrible. That looks like such a nice suit too. Are you sure it'll wash out?" Jo knew the pain of having nice clothes and ruining them. She once had a taxi splash nasty street water all over a Givenchy dress and completely destroyed the material. Not the end of the world, but still a sad day for the angel. "I can always buy you something if that's ruined. Really, any brand you want." Her inner angel-ness was popping out on this one, for no other human would offer something so expensive for such a small incident. But in the wise words of the humans-"Yolo" (Sorry, that popped in my head and I had to write it.)
The woman's next reaction seemed a little stalled, as if she was deeply thinking about something. But as soon as she was not talking, she was up and speaking again. "Oh no, you shouldn't be buying me anything right now! Let me buy you an ice cream." Joph wouldn't take no for an answer on this one. She walked back to the ice cream store, which was literally right there, motioning for the woman to follow. From what little she had tasted of her ice cream, this place had pretty good stuff, and the stranger needed a little treat after business meetings and being run over by a clumsy Korean angel.

NOTES [ none ] | "I'm quite sure," Matt said, nodding. "Accidents like this happen all the time. I'm pretty good at getting out stains, so I'm not really worried. You don't need to get me anything." He wasn't lying. With all the accidents Attie had caused with paint, they'd quickly learned how to get a variety of stains out of clothing. That and all the blood.
Matt opened his mouth to respond, but quickly shut it as he watched the woman start walking toward the ice cream shop. Well. I guess we're getting ice cream then.
She seems reasonable, Attie remarked. I like her. Even if I get the feeling that there's something she didn't mention.
There's certainly something she didn't mention. She completely glossed over how exactly she planned to pay for it. Either she's ridiculously wealthy or is willing to throw away money on literally anything, which would imply at least some form of disposable income. I'd watch my step.
Yeah, I caught that, Matt replied. I'm going to ask questions when I get the opportunity. Now if you guys would kindly quiet down so I can focus...
Right. No speaking in the silence. Complete quiet. No talking starting... now.
Creti.
Sorry!
Lulu was quiet, which seemed to indicate that she understood. She usually did when things like this were concerned. She was usually fairly good about this sort of thing, Matt had found, ever since they were small. She'd been easier than the others to get on-task and at ease, if only marginally.
Matt quickly realized that they'd arrived just behind the stranger they'd followed inside. "Right. Sorry. Uh. I'll... I'll have a vanilla. If that's okay. I can look over what they've got if they don't, I just... usually tend to fall back on vanilla. It's standard, and I like it, so..."
BooooOOOOOOORING! was the response.

"I'll feel terrible if I don't repay you somehow, though." That was the last comment she made before dragging this poor businessperson around like an animal. Granted, Jo didn't exactly realize that she was more or less forcing this person into eating an ice cream, which certainly was not the worst thing someone could be forced into doing, but it was still irritating if the person in question just wanted to go about their day. And it wasn't like she was physically dragging him (looks like a woman, actually a man, sorry if i mess up the pronouns bleh) into the shop. He could ditch if he wanted, but who wouldn't spare time for a free ice cream? Besides, in the two seconds of knowing this person, he seemed kind and calm and not like the type to just walk away from this.
Money was not an issue for an angel. There was a fund that she could tap into that had tons of money-not that she really went out and splurged too often with it. Of course there was a cute bag or shoes now and then, but she didn't just blow buckets of it for the fun of it. In fact, she donated tons of it to various charities. There was more than enough for Jo to bring her new acquaintance to a nice store and swipe the debit card through for a new suit. Jophiel still hadn't realized that her offering up money like nothing was a bit suspicious.
Jophiel was pleased that he followed along and that she would be able to do something for him, even if it was just an ice cream. Her new friend started rambling about vanilla ice cream and that it's the fall-back ice cream etc etc. Jo smiled and tried to hold back a chuckle; she had never seen anyone so flustered about ice cream. "They have vanilla, but their fruity flavors are better, at least in my opinion. You can order an ice cream with two different scoops. Vanilla and something else, maybe. You can take your time."
The angel herself scanned the ice cream flavors again, not sure if she wanted what she had before, or wanted to try something new. 'Dasi osin geos-eul hwan-yeonghabnida' Welcome back The young man instantly recognized her, not only from being in there five minutes earlier, but from daily trips that she liked to take to this specific ice cream shop. "Gamsahabnida. Naneun nogchawa seoglyu aiseukeulim-ui teugjong-eul hago sipseubnida." I would like a scoop of green tea and pomegranate ice cream.
She looked back at the businessperson and asked, "Have you decided yet?" Jophiel was going to order for him as well, assuming that he didn't speak Korean. He could probably manage to order the ice cream himself in English, by pointing and the younger workers understanding much of it. However, anything having to do with the English language made Koreans uncomfortable for not being able to speak or understand it perfectly, so it was always better to do things in Korean when possible. But that was like any country, wasn't it? "I got green tea and pomegranate-a scoop of each."

NOTES [ none ] | Matt looked over the menu carefully, letting the others seen what kind of ice cream was available. Certainly he liked vanilla, but if the others could agree on a flavor with relative ease, then he'd be happy to provide another flavor for their enjoyment.
POMEGRANATE? GET POMEGRANATE.
Attie, that is disgusting. Choose something else. I don't care what it is as long as it's not that.
Touchy touchy. Fine, whatever. Orange, lemon, something fruity. C'mon. Don't keep her here all day.
But guys! Look at all these flavors! See, they have pear, and peach, and coconut, and even mango! Don't we all like mango?
Creti's right. Go with mango.
That seems like the best idea, yes.
That was fast. Mango it is. "Um. Mango is good for the second one." Matt didn't mind it, and he knew that a lot of the other heads really enjoyed it, so it seemed like the best response. "You really didn't need to do this, I swear, but... well, I appreciate it." Matt smiled. "I don't know much about this area, so it's good that I'm learning some of the local things like the ice cream flavors." Okay, so this probably wasn't the best turn the conversation could have taken, but Matt wasn't sure what else to say. What did you say to someone you'd bumped into on the street because neither of you had been paying attention? Tiamat didn't really have many casual friends, so small talk was not exactly one of their strongest points. They weren't terrible at it, though, or at least they shouldn't have been, but Matt was still a little surprised from the entire ordeal going down.
Would you like me to handle things? Ama offered.
No, no, I've got it. Just... I'll just let her do the talking. Hopefully she's as eager to talk as she is to help when there's an ice cream situation involved.

This ice cream shop had the biggest variety that she had ever seen in ice cream, even with all of the places in New York City, and the most unique flavors. Anything you'd think of and they'd have it. Unique fruits and other flavors called things like "tigers blood", and then the basics such as vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate. They'd make milkshakes and smoothies with anything you'd want and even had different flavored cones and waffle cups. It was truly a treat to come here, like an ice cream heaven.
He seemed to really ponder the menu which made Jophiel happy. It was no fun to just pick something because you were used to it or didn't want to be bothered deciding. It only took about a minute for the man to scoop her flavors into a cone (just a regular one, having a flavored cone with green tea and pomegranate was just a recipe to mess up your tastebuds). She took her cone with one hand and a few napkins. Jo didn't make a move for her cone until she had her acquaintance's ordered. "Mango? That's a good choice. Very refreshing!" She ordered his vanilla and mango ice cream combination, and while that was being made, pulled out some won to pay for both.
"I know, but you might as well have a taste of the thing that stained your nice suit." Jophiel said with a slight chuckle. She took his cone and handed it to him along with a few napkins. "I'm pretty sure this ice cream place is one of a kind. You won't find anything like it in the rest of South Korea. It's a gem." Jophiel looked around for a place to sit, not wanting a repeat incident. Besides, she was a bit fascinated by this person and not ready to lose the company...unless he was busy or thought she was creepy. Or a little of both. "Would you like to sit?" she asked, nodding to an empty table by the window. "I mean, you don't have to stay if you don't want to..."

NOTES [ none ] | Matt accepted the cone with a slight nod. "It looks very unique. I've got a lot of friends, all with varied taste, and I think they'd like this place a lot." Ama, could you remember this place for later? I think this would be quite nice for everyone to enjoy once in a while.
Duly noted. I'll keep it in mind, especially if we've got anything in Seoul from here on out.
"No, it's perfectly fine. I'd love to stay and chat, actually. I'm a bit intrigued by you." Matt knew there had been a fleeting notion that they'd all shared telling them that the woman paying for their ice cream was somehow different, though he couldn't at the moment put it together. Ama and Lulu would likely be putting their heads together thinking of a possible line of questioning that would give them the most information about their new companion.
Moving toward the table, Matt smiled and licked at his ice cream. "So, do you live here, or do you just visit often? It's not common that a first-timer would find a gem like this, after all, which is probably why I missed it. Not that I'm a first-timer, but I don't usually spend much time here."
Well, I mean, there aren't really any cute villages to raze and crops to burn and princesses to kidnap, so it's not exactly on the top of the interest list, but it's a pretty cute place.
"But, anyway. Tell me a little about yourself. I love learning things, especially when it involves others, and I'm quite curious."
Of course, Matt's intent was not quite as pure as he made it out to be, but their visitor didn't need to know that.
And, maybe if we sweet-talk you enough, you'll buy us a cute dress or give us a kiss or something. What a cutie, though. |
