“Thank-you,” she said, though its beauty had nothing to do with her. In fact, going by what the queen was saying meant that the book’s beauty was actually the doing of one of her countless daughters. It truly was a gorgeous book. Having never previously read it before buying it, part of Dell’s desire to own the book came from its pleasing aesthetic. It would look stunning in her private collection and she looked forward to reading it over again. Really, she had a long time ahead of her and she was likely to read it many more times.
As the woman thought – or so it seemed to the Phoenix, who watched her for a moment before turning her gaze to the windows – Dell picked up her muffin, nibbling at it while the wind rattled the windows. A part of her wished for rain. It was the only thing that could make this day better. There was something very soothing about rain and even with five hundred years under her belt she couldn’t place her finger on just what it was that made her like it so much. Sitting in this cozy bakery with a cup of tea and the queen of the Fae, having just purchased a book she had been longing for, could only be made better by the beauty of a rain storm: thunder and lightning optional.
When Titania started speaking again, Dell tore her eyes away from the windows but didn’t cease silently wishing that it would rain. Learning that , no, Titania had not met a Phoenix before, she nodded once. It was a bit discouraging. She figured if anyone could’ve met another Phoenix it would’ve been the queen of the Fae (or Dell herself), so knowing that neither of them had met another made her wonder yet again if she was the only one. She waved off the queen’s apology, grinning and letting the other news fall to the wayside. “No need to apologise, really. And yes, I do. Not as often as I like anymore, but at the same time it’s nice to have a home to go back to at the end of each trip.”
“Travelling is the best way to find books, whether accidentally or through careful planning. So yes to both.” Dell paused, smiling slightly. “I assume you travel. Do you have a favourite place?” |

Oh, this little Phoenix knew exactly what she was talking about, didn't she?
Of course Titania liked to travel; she was the Faerie Queen, after all. What good was having the entire world at your feet if you could not truly enjoy it every once in a while? That being said, Anya did have her own duties to attend to, such as her kingdom and her children. But she had not had any children for a long time now, almost five decades, and the kingdom was in peace at the moment. There was no better time for her to run off and see the world than now, when no one was waiting for or wanting her.
"Ireland," she murmured, without even so much as a second thought. "Ireland's my true home, no matter what anyone else says. The Scots are fond of the Fae, but they are much more my husband's ilk. He even sounds like them." Here, the Faerie Queen gave a little chuckle, and she tilted her head to look at Endellion. The wind outside seemed to calm a bit, but the rush had brought with it a hint of dark clouds. Perhaps Ireland would taste her husband's gift yet. "My children were born here, you see. I was born here, though that was... that was quite a long time ago."
Long before the humans, she remembered. Long before even the Olden Fae had died. Titania had been born from a flower here, in Ireland, in the center of a perfect ring of stones. This was her birthplace, as the humans would have said. Though her home and heart was in Avalon, Ireland was where she had first learned to run and fly, and where her father had watched her rise from the dew of that yellow flower. The memory, though old and well-lived, still brought a smile to her face.
"My daughters, the Cassidy Sisters, were born here almost a thousand years ago. A handful still reside with me, though one still wanders this realm. Perhaps you'll meet her, someday. Or perhaps her daughter. She runs an inn nearby, if I am not mistaken." Titania leaned back in her chair and smiled. "My children are dear to me, little bird. But I'm afraid we've gotten off track.
"Is there anywhere you long to travel?"
