{ VAMPIRES } |
Vampires are beasts of legend, creatures that used to stalk the night, but now roam freely amongst the living. They have control over the world as a whole, but are slowly losing their grip to the other races.
It is said that the first vampire came from the mating between Lucifer and a human woman, a woman who would come to be known around the world as as Lilith. From Lilith, the original thirteen vampires spread, each one born for a moon of the year. They spread across the world, settling in different areas, and, like their father, began to seduce humanity from the Light of God into the Shadow of the Night. The Vampire Race is ruled by the Vampire Council, which contains thirteen members. Each of these seats pays homage to an original child of Lilith, and thus to a full moon of the year. When a new member joins the Council, he or she becomes number thirteen, and each member moves up one number. The current leader of the council is Lady Charlotte, who makes her home in Paris after the vampire takeover of the human world.
People often tout weres as the more "bestial" in the vampire/were dichotomy, but this isn't quite true. Vampires are just as bestial as weres can be, just usually in different ways. While many weres are wolves, vampires are distinctly feline in nature. Vampires will purr when they're contented, hiss and spit when they're angry, and are happier alone than in groups more often than not. Vampires act very much like housecats in human-like bodies, when it really comes down to it, complete with stretching at odd angles and knocking things off of shelves in petty revenge.
Though Hollywood and literature would like to have you think a vampire is made by bite alone or simply by draining, that isn't quite the case; if it was, there'd be much more vampires running around than there are now, as many as there are people vampires have fed on. Vampires are made through a sharing of blood. They drain the person they are turning to the point of death, and then they feed their own blood to them to bring them back fully to life. Their blood will then take over, and the person will "die" for twenty-four hours before returning as the living dead. Because of its "intended" purpose, vampire blood is highly addictive; it gives the drinker a nice buzz, makes their libido much more active, and heals any wounds or diseases they might have. Turning can happen on accident, sometimes. If a vampire grows attached to a human partner, the human will often feed their blood to them, and the vampire will sometimes give their own blood in return. If these things occur in very close succession and too much blood is taken from one or the other, it won't be too long before there's another vampire in the world. Turning is about a 50/50 shot. Half the people who intended to become vampires could not handle the blood, and were killed. Even when it does "take", it can mess up. One example of this is a current member of the council, Rafael, who has no use of his legs. Even though turning was meant to knit his spine back together, it does not, and he remains using a wheelchair to this day. If a Plus is turned, there is another gamble on whether or not they will keep their powers. Often times, they are either dulled or erased completely. But very rarely they stay, just as potent as when the Plus was living. Please ask before playing a Plus vampire who keeps their powers, whether the character is starting off that way or being turned. |
